SHAW JEWELRY is a gallery for contemporary, innovative and proactive jewelry and artwork located in Northeast Harbor Maine. Since 1983 originator Sam Shaw has created his own work as well as introduced and promoted jewelry artists from around the world. He is currently working in three aesthetic groups of jewelry, which are Twig, Beachstone and Gemstone. |

Twig Collection
With an alchemists touch, I convert thin birch tree twigs into 18kt gold in a process akin to lost wax. I fabricate these into jewelry like a high-end topiary artist. I coax branches to grow where there were none through joining, soldering and bending. The desired effect is a piece that appears to have grown on your wrist. Each piece is fabricated from these individually cast twigs so each piece is absolutely unique. The texture and surface is retained, the scale correct, the transitions natural. |

Beachstone Collection
Coming of age on an island in Maine informed my aesthetic appreciation for my artwork. It is not surprising that in 1985 I created a collection of jewelry centered on the delight of wave worn beachstones. My interest stems from the intrinsic beauty and the understandings of the processes that formed them. Beyond that, I am very engaged in the duality between precious (gold) and what is generally considered without worth (beachstone). By setting these humble stones in high karat gold constructions I am forcing the viewer to consider them as something of value. |

gemstone Collection
The seduction and curiosity of gems from the earth is foremost in this group. Typically set in minimalist bezels or hammed discs with 22 kt gold, these are large, opulent and juicy pieces using a wide range of stones including emerald, tourmaline, fossils, artifacts, sapphires, South Sea pearls, raw diamonds or mineral specimens. Sam always returns from the worlds largest gem show in Tucson with fresh baubles in delicious colors, textures and cuts. Each stone is individually selected for quality, desirability, and price. |

Shaw Jewelry is located in the resort town of Northeast Harbor, Maine. It is on Mount Desert Island, adjacent to Acadia National Park, and is open primarily in summer. You are likely to find; the largest trove of Sam’s fabulous jewelry, reckless contemporary jewelers, Maharajah diamond jewelry from India, minimal European machine aesthetic, provocative and avante garde pieces, thematic and narrative works, South Sea pearls, and jewelry made from alternative materials including Formica, glass, and recycled materials. The range of price is also vast. |
